Social Media Image Sizes for Every Platform

The image sizes for Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads and Bluesky, one table per platform. Where a platform publishes a size, it's used here; where it doesn't, the table says so and gives the safe choice.

Instagram

Save posts 1080 px wide. Instagram keeps photos up to that width at full resolution and shrinks wider ones, so a bigger file gains nothing. Portrait 4:5 takes the most room in the feed. Carousels, the 3:4 profile grid and Reel covers are covered in our Instagram post sizes guide.

Facebook

Facebook's help pages give sizes for the cover and profile picture only. For feed images and Stories, Meta publishes sizes for ads, so those rows use them.

X (Twitter)

X publishes sizes for the header and profile photo. It gives none for images in posts: 16:9 is the shape guides agree shows in full in the timeline.

The personal banner and the company page cover are different shapes, so one image can't do both. Your profile photo or logo covers the lower left of each.

TikTok

TikTok publishes sizes only for ads, and those are 9:16 too. Full HD at 1080 px wide is what phones show sharply.

YouTube

Pinterest recommends 2:3 pins and warns that taller ones may be cut off in the feed.

Threads

Threads publishes no image sizes in its help centre. Its developer docs accept JPEG or PNG up to 8 MB, 320–1440 px wide, so Instagram's sizes work.

Bluesky

Bluesky sets limits in bytes, not pixels, and publishes no pixel sizes. A banner over 1 MB won't upload, so save it as a JPEG: a PNG this size is often too big.

Frequently asked questions

Is there one image size that works on every platform?

No. A 1080 × 1350 px portrait suits the Instagram, Threads and Facebook feeds, and 1080 × 1920 px suits Stories, Reels and TikTok. Banners each need their own shape: 16:9 for YouTube, 3:1 for X and Bluesky, 4:1 for LinkedIn.

What is the Instagram DP size?

Instagram doesn't publish one. It shows your profile picture as a circle at 320 × 320 px; upload a square 1080 × 1080 px photo with your face in the middle and it stays sharp.

What size is a YouTube thumbnail?

1280 × 720 px (16:9), at least 640 px wide, as a JPG or PNG. The YouTube phone app takes files up to 2 MB; a computer takes up to 50 MB.

What size should a Facebook cover photo be?

Facebook says 851 × 315 px loads fastest. Computers and phones crop it to different shapes, so keep text and faces in the middle. For a sharper cover, upload 1640 × 624 px.

What size is a LinkedIn banner?

1584 × 396 px for a personal profile, under 8 MB. A company page cover is flatter: 1512 × 256 px, up to 3 MB.

Why does my photo look blurry after I upload it?

Usually because it was smaller than the platform's size and got stretched, or much bigger and got compressed hard. Save it at the size in the table: on Instagram, 1080 px wide is as sharp as it gets.
