Why Instagram removes your line breaks
As of October 2026, Instagram keeps a single line break, but a caption's blank lines often disappear, above all when the text is pasted from Notes, Google Docs or a scheduling app. Instagram has never documented the rule, but the pattern people see is consistent: when a caption or bio is saved, spaces at the end of each line are trimmed, and lines left with nothing on them are removed, so your paragraphs run together.
The fix is to make sure no line is empty. This tool puts one invisible character, U+2800 (the blank Braille pattern), on each blank line. It draws nothing on iPhone, Android or the web, but it isn't a space, so Instagram leaves the line alone. It also removes spaces and tabs at the ends of lines, which is the most common reason a break vanishes after pasting.
Each invisible character counts as one character. That's nothing against a caption's 2,200 characters, but a bio only has 150. Screen readers may announce the character or skip it, so if many of your followers use one, a visible dot on blank lines is the kinder choice.
Features
Spacing that sticks
An invisible character on each blank line, so Instagram can't treat the line as empty.
Trailing spaces removed
Spaces at the end of a line are the usual reason a line break disappears. They're stripped for you.
Phone preview
See the caption under a post, with the “… more” cut, or as a bio under your profile header.
Undo the spacing
Paste a caption you made earlier and press Undo spacing to get ordinary blank lines back for editing.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Instagram delete the spaces between my paragraphs?
Instagram trims the spaces at the end of every line and removes lines that are left empty, so a blank line between paragraphs can vanish. It happens most when you paste text from another app. Putting an invisible character on the blank line stops it.
Will the invisible characters show up in my caption?
No. U+2800 draws nothing in the Instagram app or on the web, so readers just see empty lines. If someone copies your caption, the characters come with it.
Does this work for bios and comments too?
Yes. Choose Bio for a bio: the counter switches to the 150-character limit. The same text also works in comments, Threads posts and Facebook captions.
Do line breaks or invisible characters hurt reach?
Instagram hasn't said they do, and the invisible character is widely used. What matters more is that the first line hooks people, because only about two lines show before “… more”.
Can I get centred text or indents in an Instagram caption?
Not reliably. Instagram strips extra spaces at the start of a caption and the app wraps lines to the screen width, so text you centre with spaces looks different on every phone.
Is my caption sent anywhere?
No. The formatting happens in your browser, and nothing you type leaves your device.
