How to turn long text into a thread
Pick the platform
Choose X, Threads, Bluesky or Mastodon so the right limit is used.
Paste your text
The thread updates as you type. Put --- on its own line to force a new post.
Post in order
Copy post 1, publish it, then reply to it with post 2, and so on.
How the splitter decides where to break
It fills each post as far as it can without going over the limit, preferring to break between paragraphs, then between sentences, then between words. Only a single word longer than a whole post, like a very long link, is ever cut.
The numbering is counted as part of each post, so “12/12” on a long thread still fits. Each platform's own counting rule is used: on X a link counts 23 and an emoji counts 2, and on Bluesky an emoji with a skin tone counts as one.
Sentences are found with your browser's built-in language rules, which handle abbreviations and most languages. If a break lands somewhere awkward, add --- on its own line where you want it.

Frequently asked questions
How do I post a thread on X?
Publish the first post, then open it and reply to it with the second, and keep replying to your latest post. Or press + in the composer to add each post before publishing them all.
Does the numbering count toward the limit?
Yes, and the splitter leaves room for it, including two-digit numbers like 10/12.
Can I choose where a post ends?
Yes. Type --- on a line by itself and a new post starts there.
Does it work for X Premium long posts?
Premium accounts can post up to 25,000 characters at once, so they rarely need a thread; choose X here to split for the standard 280.
