How to make an Instagram grid

1

Choose a photo

Pick the picture you want across your profile. A large, sharp photo works best.

2

Set rows and shape

Choose how many rows of 3 and the post shape, then slide to choose which part of the photo to use.

3

Post in order

Download the tiles and post #1 first. The top-left tile goes up last, so the picture lines up.

Why the order matters

Instagram puts your newest post in the top-left corner of your profile and pushes the rest along. So to rebuild the picture, you post the bottom-right piece first and the top-left piece last. Every tile here is numbered with the order to post it, and the downloaded files are named the same way.

Since 2025 Instagram's profile grid shows posts as 3:4 rectangles rather than squares. The 3:4 shape makes tiles that line up exactly on the grid. 4:5 tiles fill the feed nicely but lose a sliver at the sides on your profile, and square tiles get cropped top and bottom.

Everything happens in your browser: the photo is cut with your device's own graphics, and nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Which tile do I post first?

The one marked #1, at the bottom right. Keep going in number order; the top-left tile is last. Don't post anything else in between, or the picture shifts.

Should I use 3:4 or square tiles?

3:4. Instagram's profile grid now shows 3:4 rectangles, so square tiles get cropped and the picture no longer joins up.

What if I already have posts?

Your grid only joins up if the number of your existing posts is a multiple of 3, so each row starts at the left. Otherwise the picture is shifted by one or two places.

Will the tiles lose quality?

Each tile is saved at 1080 px wide, the width Instagram uses. A small photo will look soft once spread over 9 posts.
