Blur Faces and Number Plates in Photos

Open a photo and every face is found and blurred for you. Add boxes for number plates, name tags or screens, choose blur or pixelate, and save it at full size, without its hidden location data.

or drop it here, or paste it (JPG, PNG or WebP)

Your photo never leaves your device: everything happens in your browser.

How to blur faces in a photo

1

Open your photo

Choose, drop or paste a photo. The faces in it are found and blurred within a few seconds.

2

Check the boxes

Add a box for anything else you want hidden, such as a number plate, name badge or screen. Drag a box to move it, drag its corners to resize it, or tap × to remove one.

3

Choose the look and save

Pick blur or pixelate and how strong, then save. The photo keeps its full size and loses its location data.

How it finds faces without uploading your photo

When you open a photo, this page downloads a small face-detection model (YuNet, about 230 KB, with the ONNX Runtime engine that runs it) from this site and runs it in your browser. Large photos are checked in overlapping sections as well as whole, so small faces in a crowd are found too. The first time takes a few seconds; after that your browser keeps a copy.

Each face's box is made larger than the face itself, to cover the hair, ears and chin, which can identify someone as much as their eyes. The blur is worked out from the pixels inside each box and is strong enough at every setting that it can't simply be sharpened back. Pixelate replaces each box with large squares of average colour.

Photos from phones carry hidden details (EXIF): the exact place they were taken, the time, and the phone. The saved photo is redrawn from its pixels only, so none of that comes with it. No detector finds every face, especially in profile, far away or partly covered, so look over the photo before you share it.

Features

Automatic face finding

Every face the model finds is boxed and blurred straight away, including small faces in group and street photos.

Boxes for anything

Number plates, name tags, school logos, screens, house numbers: add as many boxes as you need and place them by hand.

Works by touch

Drag, resize and remove boxes with a finger on your phone, or with a mouse or keyboard on a computer.

Blur or pixelate

A soft blur or chunky pixels, from light to very strong. The preview shows exactly what you'll save.

Full size, no metadata

Saved at the photo's own resolution, without location, camera or date details.

Nothing is uploaded

The face detection and blurring run in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The face detector is downloaded to your browser and runs there, and the blurring happens there too. Your photo is never sent to this site or anyone else.

How do I blur a number plate?

Tap “Add a box”, then drag it over the plate and drag its corners until it covers the whole plate. On a computer you can also drag across the plate to draw a box. Number plates aren't found automatically.

It missed a face. What can I do?

Add a box over it by hand. Faces turned sideways, very small, blurred by motion or partly hidden are the ones most often missed, so check the whole photo before you post it.

Can a blur be undone?

Not from the saved photo: the detail inside each box is replaced, not hidden under a layer. A very light blur over large, clear text can sometimes still be guessed, so use a higher strength or pixelate for text such as plates.

Does it remove the location from my photo?

Yes. The saved photo has no EXIF data at all, so there's no GPS location, date, time or camera details in it.

Why is the saved photo smaller than my original on iPhone?

Safari can't draw images larger than about 16.7 megapixels, so a bigger photo is saved at the largest size Safari allows and the page tells you. Other browsers save at the full size.
