Invisible Character to Copy and Paste (Blank Text)

An invisible character looks empty but still counts as text. For a blank name, copy the hangul filler (U+3164); for a blank line in a bio, the braille blank (U+2800); for no width at all, the zero-width space (U+200B). Tap Copy next to one, then paste it into your app. Nothing is uploaded.

Invisible and blank characters

These look empty but are real characters. No app publishes which ones it keeps, so test before you rely on one in a name.

  • Hangul filler U+3164

    Width:ㅤnot a space

Good for: A blank name in Free Fire, PUBG and other games, or a blank display name or message. Unicode classes it as a letter, not a space, so name boxes that refuse spaces often accept it.

Watch out: Fonts draw it either as a wide gap or as nothing. Some games and apps now block it in names because it's used to hide or copy names.

  • Half-width Hangul filler U+FFA0

    Width:ᅠnot a space

Good for: A narrower version of the Hangul filler, to try where U+3164 is refused or the gap is too wide.

Watch out: Support varies by app and font even more than for U+3164. Test it before you rely on it.

  • Braille blank U+2800

    Width:⠀not a space

Good for: Blank lines in an Instagram caption or bio, a blank name, or an empty-looking message. It's a symbol, not whitespace, so apps that trim empty lines leave it alone.

Watch out: It's about as wide as a space, not zero width. Screen readers may announce it as a blank braille cell.

  • Zero-width space U+200B

    Width:not a space

Good for: No width at all. Put it inside a hashtag, @mention or link so it isn't turned into a link, or into a long word so it can wrap.

Watch out: Many apps strip zero-width characters from names and usernames. A word with one inside no longer matches in search.

  • Word joiner U+2060

    Width:not a space

Good for: No width, and no line break either: keeps an emoji or symbol on the same line as the word next to it.

Watch out: Some apps strip it, and very old devices may show a box.

  • No-break space U+00A0

    Width: counts as a space

Good for: An ordinary-width space that never wraps, so two words, or a number and its unit, stay on one line.

Watch out: It's whitespace: apps that trim text remove it at the start and end of a line or name, and a line holding only this counts as empty. Some apps turn it into a normal space.

  • En space U+2002

    Width: counts as a space

Good for: A space half the font size wide, about two normal spaces: a wider gap between words or icons in a bio line.

Watch out: It's whitespace: apps that trim text remove it at the start and end of a line or name, and a line holding only this counts as empty.

  • Em space U+2003

    Width: counts as a space

Good for: A space as wide as the font size, about four normal spaces: indent a line or spread out a heading.

Watch out: It's whitespace: apps that trim text remove it at the start and end of a line or name, and a line holding only this counts as empty.

  • Thin space U+2009

    Width: counts as a space

Good for: A narrow space, about a fifth of the font size: a small gap around a symbol or between a number and a unit.

Watch out: It's whitespace: apps that trim text remove it at the start and end of a line or name, and a line holding only this counts as empty.

  • Ideographic space U+3000

    Width: counts as a space

Good for: A full-width space, the width of a Chinese or Japanese character. A few games accept it inside names.

Watch out: It's whitespace: apps that trim text remove it at the start and end of a line or name, and a line holding only this counts as empty. Most name boxes refuse a name made only of spaces.

How to copy an invisible character

1

Pick the right blank

For a blank name, start with the hangul filler (U+3164). For an empty line in a caption or bio, the braille blank (U+2800). To stop a hashtag or link from turning blue, the zero-width space (U+200B).

2

Copy it

Press Copy next to it. Nothing seems to happen in the text, because the character is invisible, but it's on your clipboard.

3

Need more than one?

Choose Add to tray, tap the blank as many times as you need, then press Copy tray.

4

Paste and test

Paste it into the name, bio or message box and save. If the app refuses it or it shows as a box, come back and try the next one in the list.

Types are the Unicode general category; "may draw as nothing" is Unicode's Default_Ignorable_Code_Point property. Widths depend on the font. No app documents which blanks it accepts in names, so test one before you rely on it. Checked 6 November 2026.

What people use invisible characters for

A blank name. Most apps and games, from WhatsApp and Instagram to Free Fire and PUBG, won't save a name made only of spaces: they trim the spaces away and are left with nothing. The hangul filler (U+3164) is classed by Unicode as a letter, not a space, so name boxes often accept it while it shows as empty. The half-width Hangul filler (U+FFA0) is a narrower one to try when the first is refused.

A blank line or an empty-looking message. Instagram often drops lines that are empty or hold only spaces, and most chat apps won't send an empty message. The braille blank (U+2800) is a symbol, not a space, so a line or message holding it isn't empty. It's what people mean by "blank text copy paste".

Spacing that doesn't break. The zero-width space (U+200B) has no width at all: put it inside a hashtag or a link so it isn't turned into one. The 5 space characters (no-break, en, em, thin and ideographic) are for wider or narrower gaps inside a line, but they're trimmed at the start and end of a name or line like an ordinary space.

Why some blanks survive and others vanish

Apps trim whitespace: the characters Unicode marks as spaces, which is why a name or line of spaces disappears when you save it. The blanks people use for names and empty lines aren't spaces. The Hangul filler is a Korean letter that draws nothing, the Braille blank is the empty braille cell, and the zero-width space and word joiner are invisible format characters.

Unicode also marks the Hangul fillers, the zero-width space and the word joiner as characters that can be ignored when drawing text, so some apps and fonts show nothing at all and others show a gap. No app publishes which blanks it accepts in names, and games change their rules to stop copied or hidden names, so test the result before you rely on it.

Each blank is still a character: it counts toward limits such as Instagram's 150-character bio, and screen readers may announce it or skip it. The characters are part of the page, and copying uses your browser's clipboard, so nothing is sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make an invisible name on Instagram or WhatsApp?

Copy the hangul filler (U+3164) and paste it as your name, alone or after a short name, then save. If the app refuses it, try the half-width Hangul filler (U+FFA0) or the braille blank (U+2800). An Instagram @username can't be blank: usernames only take letters, numbers, full stops and underscores.

What is the Hangul filler?

U+3164, a Korean character that draws as empty space. Unicode classes it as a letter, not a space, so apps that trim spaces usually keep it. Fonts draw it either as a wide gap or as nothing.

How do I get a blank name in Free Fire?

Paste the hangul filler (U+3164) into the name box, or several of them using the tray. Free Fire and other games sometimes block it to stop hidden names; if yours does, try the half-width Hangul filler (U+FFA0).

Why does the zero-width space not work for a blank name?

It has no width, and many apps strip zero-width characters from names, which leaves the name empty and gets it refused. Use the Hangul filler for a name and keep the zero-width space for breaking hashtags and links.

How do I send a blank message?

Most chat apps won't send an empty message. Paste the braille blank (U+2800) or the hangul filler (U+3164) on its own and send that: it looks empty but isn't.

Do invisible characters count toward character limits?

Yes. Each one is at least one character, so it counts toward limits such as Instagram's 150-character bio.
